Quick & Easy White Queso Dip is just like your favorite
Mexican restaurants made at home! This simple dip makes boring Taco Tuesdays to over the top!
Quick and easy white queso dip is the creamy, cheesy, melty deliciousness you get at the Mexican restaurant!
But, you won’t believe that these few ingredients will transform your taco night and transport you to your favorite Mexican Restaurant any night of the week!
You’ll end up wanting to drizzle this over anything and everything you make. 😉
How do you make white queso from scratch?
It’s really simple — that beautiful, melty goodness seems like it’s complicated, but I can assure you it is most definitely not.
- Melt American cheese with a can of green chilis and some milk.
- Dip your favorite corn tortilla chip into the cheesy business.
What kind of white cheese is used in Mexican restaurant queso?
White American Cheese. << Yup! Not white Velveeta. Not all the myriad of other cheeses you can think. Just plain, white American cheese.
What is White Queso Dip made of?
The base recipe is made up of white American cheese, green chilis, and milk.
There are plenty of ways to vary this combo though! What tastes good to you and what you prefer, add it in!
Ideas for what to add-in:
- Fresh (or pickled!) jalapenos
- Rotel Tomatoes
- Green Onions & Peppers
- Cooked chorizo
The list is endless!
If you like extra spice, add in some cayenne pepper or dashes of hot sauce.
You make this however your heart desires! 😂
Kitchen Equipment you’ll need:
Where do you buy white American cheese?
The best place to purchase this is from the deli section of your grocery store. You can have them slice it either into a big half-pound chunk (which is what I do) or into slices.
It is not the white Velveeta! Or, the Kraft singles. Head straight to your deli section and ask for half a pound of white American cheese, and they’ll fix you right up!
What is the difference between queso blanco and queso fresco?
Okay! This is a question I am asked ALL THE TIME. I get tons of pictures or videos from users who have queso fresco in a bowl, trying to melt it.
Queso Fresco is a FINISHING cheese. Like feta cheese, it’s made from cow’s milk, and it’s considered a “fresh” cheese.
Queso Blanco is the creamy, cheesy white dip you order at restaurants.
Easy white queso dip is just that — EASY!
You could make this in your microwave or small slow cooker if you’ve got one.
I prefer to cook this in a double boiler over the stovetop.
Using a glass bowl, nested inside a pot with water in it (don’t let the water touch the bowl!) over medium heat.
Place the cheese, chilis, milk, and cumin into the bowl.
Gently stir until it melts.
You can walk away, and stir every now and then, but the whole process takes about 20 minutes to melt.
In the microwave, add all the ingredients to a glass bowl and microwave in one-minute intervals.
For the baby slow cooker, just turn it on low and let it melt for an hour — talk about EASY!
Finally, what else can I serve with this?
For a super simple Taco Tuesday, whip up these Easy Ground Beef Tacos and enjoy a real fiesta!
Or, give these Copycat Mexican Pizzas a try! They’re even better drizzled with queso on top!
