Learning how to create a productive morning routine will transform your life and create lifelong habits that will help you become your most effective self.

How to Create a Productive Morning Routine

Have you ever thought about your morning routine? Do you feel like your mornings are lagging, and you’re wasting time by sleeping in, or scrolling your phone, or watching TV?

Are you using your time well, to set yourself up for a productive day?

I’m sharing my morning routine today, and I hope it inspires you to create a routine that will effectively work for you!

How to Create a Productive Morning Routine

A productive morning routine starts the night before.

After reading The Joy of Missing Out, and taking Tonya Dalton’s Discover Your North Star course, I began using the evenings to harness the power of productivity.

Night Time Quick Overview:

  1. Review calendar.
  2. Spend 10 minutes setting up my day.
  3. Set out clothing for the next day.

I’ve got a nighttime skincare routine that I’ll be sharing soon… During that, I do the three things above.

Good Morning!

Before I get out of my bed and check my phone, I do a little stretch in bed, while I pull the covers up and slide out of bed. ?

Yep! I partially make my bed while I’m still in it.

I get out of bed, finish making the bed, and move into my routine.

((I find that if I do not make my bed, I’m more likely to ‘hop back in’ for a minute, and then I never get out of my jammies!))

I’ll walk to the kitchen, I’ll make a cup of tea. While that steeps, I’ll put the dishes away from washing the night before.

With my tea in hand, I head back to the bedroom.

I go through my morning skincare routine…

Morning Skincare Routine Overview:

  1. Countertime Lipid Defence Cleansing Oil
  2. Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence
  3. Counter+ No. 3 Balancing Oil
  4. Countertime Antioxidant Soft Cream
  5. Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream
  6. Circadia Light Day Sunscreen (This is every single day, no matter the season, the clouds, etc.)
  7. Lumify Eye Drops

It’s a lot, y’all! I know… it takes about 10 minutes total but gives me ample time to get my day going.

After I go through my morning skincare routine, I get dressed, put on makeup, and I’m ready for the day.

Having my clothes set out the night before helps me stay on task and get going.

ready for the day after a productive morning routine

I talked about my minimalist wardrobe on IG Stories a year ago, but I haven’t written about it! Maybe soon?! ((Tell me in the comments below if you’d like to see that!))

Super quickly, I’ve got 10 outfits that I rotate through. And that’s it!

Now we’re ready to get started “working” — here’s what happens after I’m dressed and ready for a productive morning.

how to create a productive morning routine

There are three absolute essentials for me each morning:

  1. Write my ‘Morning Pages.’
  2. Plan my day.
  3. Make my list.

Sometimes, I’ll have packed all this up the night before, and will head to a coffee shop to get work done. I still use my Simple Mobile Office Setup!

Writing Morning Pages —

What does this mean?

In the book, The Artist’s Way, is a book read by creatives to help them push through barriers in their own lives. I loved the book, but don’t follow the process as closely.

The ritual of Morning Pages is writing three full pages first thing in the morning, before anything else.

I like to write myself a little pep talk each morning and answer a few questions.

Plan My Day —

I’ll look over the week, and decide what three things I’m working on for the day. Then, write those down and create little action steps for each task.

Make My List —

I’ll take my three things, and write a task list for them.

This usually means breaking each major task down into three minor tasks. This is just helpful so if you need a break and need to move on to something else, I can cross one thing off the list.

Finally, I move into “work mode.”

And I just make it happen!

I’ve got my blogging routine, and I batch “things” for each day.

Mondays and Tuesdays are cooking/photography days.

Wednesdays and Thursdays are editing/writing days.

Fridays and Saturdays are for scheduling social media and writing.
