First, let’s chat about how simple these ingredients are and gather them up to make this fan-favorite TikTok recipe.

You probably have all of them in your pantry and fridge now.

Tiktok’s latest viral recipe starts with a tub of sour cream. Use full-fat, fat-free, whatever you want. 

Plop a big tub into a large bowl.

Then, you’ll need some grated cheese. I like to grate my own cheddar cheese with this counter cheese grater. So easy!

Next, you’ll crack open a can of Rotel. It’s that can of green chiles and tomatoes that you use for Mama Leah dip or the Rotel Dip with Sausage we all know and love. 

I don’t drain mine, I like all the juicy flavor it adds. But, feel free to drain yours!

Since we’re using ranch dressing powder, it thickens after some time in the fridge. Adding in the liquid from the Rotel tomatoes helps give us a scoopable dip.

Then, you tear open a packet of taco seasoning and a ranch dressing packet.

Pour those into the bowl and mix everything up!

Fresh veggies like carrot sticks, celery, cucumbers, and even raw broccoli would be amazing! 

If you’re hosting a pool party or other water-side party, this is a crowd-pleasing dip to make. Since it serves all kinds of eaters!

This taco dip is definitely a multi-tasker, too. 

I will be making this for my Pulled Pork Chalupa Party and serving it as an appetizer and a topping for the dish! 

Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to seven days, and enjoyed over and over!

Boat Dip Variations

The following ingredients can be added or substituted for a dip that is perfectly enjoyed on top of the water!

Add in a can of chopped green chilies for a bit of spice, and a punch of flavor. I love keeping those little cans you find in the Mexican aisle on hand. They add so much flavor to anything! This gives your dip a real Mexican flavor without it being too hot. 

If you love green onions like I do, add in a few green onions that you’ve sliced! I love adding green onions to a dip! This Green Onion Chip Dip lets green onions star in their own dip recipe!

Instead of 16 ounces of sour cream, try using blended cottage cheese! Or regular cottage cheese! This would give this dip recipe a huge boost in protein, and make your long family day better!
