Golden Syrup Hot Wings
Golden Syrup Hot Wings are the sweet and spicy wing recipe you crave! Golden Syrup is mixed with Hot Sauce for finger-licking deliciousness!
This is the chicken wing recipe that marries Americans with Brits, and they marry so well.
Have you ever heard of Golden Syrup??
It’s this beautiful sugary syrup from London, that our British friends use for baking and desserts.
Golden Syrup is amber in color and has the most deliciously buttery-caramel taste.
It’s the perfect accouterment to hot sauce on chicken wings!
These are made in the air fryer, and perfect for one person!
But, yes, you can double, triple, whatever this recipe for your people.
How do you make Golden Syrup Hot Wings?
First, gather your ingredients:
- Chicken Wings
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Pepper
- Golden Syrup
- Hot Sauce
Next, toss your thawed chicken wings with baking powder, salt, and pepper while your air fryer heats up. (Yes, I like to preheat my air fryer!)
After a good 5 minutes of letting your air fryer heat up, toss the chicken wings into the air fryer at 400˚ for about 6 minutes.
I have a very small air fryer, perfect for one person, so things tend to cook much faster since it’s a smaller amount of food.
While the chicken wings get all crispy and tender, stir together the golden syrup and hot sauce.
I prefer Cholula, but use what you like and have on hand!
Once the chicken wings are crispy, toss them in the sauce.
Then, put BACK into the air fryer for a couple of minutes to let the sauce really “adhere” to the wings.
Finally, remove them from the air fryer, toss them with MORE sauce, and serve with homemade ranch on the side!

Thanks to Cooks Illustrated, baking powder is the prime medium for crispy wings.
Not to get too food nerd on you, but the makeup of baking powder draws the moisture out of the chicken skin.
Producing super crispy skin, perfect for any chicken wing recipe you have!
