Frequently Asked Questions
Here are three frequently asked questions about spicy maple bacon, along with their answers:
1. How do you keep the bacon crispy when adding maple syrup?
To keep the bacon crispy, bake it in the oven at 375°F–400°F on a wire rack placed over a baking sheet. This allows the fat to drip away while the bacon cooks evenly. Brush the maple syrup and spices on during the last 5 minutes of baking to prevent it from becoming too soft or sticky.
2. Can I make spicy maple bacon ahead of time?
Yes! You can make it ahead and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4–5 days. Reheat it in a skillet or oven at 350°F for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
3. What are some creative ways to use spicy maple bacon?
Spicy maple bacon is great on its own but also works well crumbled over salads, added to breakfast sandwiches, wrapped around dates, or even sprinkled over vanilla ice cream for a sweet-and-spicy twist!

Spicy Maple Bacon
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 30 minutes
- Total Time: 40 minutes
- Category: Breakfast
- Cuisine: American
Ingredients
- 1 LB, Thick-Cut Bacon (I prefer Wrights brand)
- 2 TBS Maple Syrup
- 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
Instructions
- Line a half-sheet pan with parchment paper. (It helps to crinkle the paper up first before laying in the sheet pan!)
- Line the baking sheet with as many slices of bacon that will fit, without touching.
- Place the bacon in a COLD oven, then turn it on to 350 degrees.
- Allow the bacon to render for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven.
- Drizzle the two tablespoons of maple syrup over the bacon strips, along with one teaspoon of red pepper flakes and one teaspoon of black pepper. I use a silicone basting brush to evenly coat the bacon strips. No need to flip them over!
- Place the tray back in the oven and roast for another 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your bacon and your crispy bacon preference.
- Remove the bacon just shy of when you think it’s done. Once it cools, the bacon gets crispier! Be so so careful! The hot maple syrup will burn you!
