The 🌸Sweetpea behind Sweetpea.🌸 Growing up, I spent hours upon hours in my grandmother’s walk-in pantry, hosting tea parties for my dolls. I would host my own show where I showed them how to make all the food we would have, pour the tea, set the table, etc. ((5 year old Sweetpea would be VERY proud of 37 year old Sweetpea.)) Here are 4️⃣ things you should know about me! I installed some motion sensor lights in my closet, and I’m loving it. 🤓 I’m a real Scrooge. I added a Christmas-y quilt to my bedroom, and I'm thinking that's it for the decorating, y'all. 😬 My life is driven by setting (and achieving!) goals, but this is the first year in a while they’ve gone out the door… and I’m not feeling guilty. I’ll do the same thing on Thursday morning as I have for the last 30-something Thanksgiving Thursdays. It’s tradition. 😬 I’m really not big on tradition. The expectations that come with traditions seem to always be a set up for disappointment… 🫖 I’m over traditions. A dear friend and I were lounging on the couch one time, discussing traditions, and how we’re really just NOT a fan. 🫢 And how, as we get older, traditions make us feel suffocated. 🫢 Stuck. 🫢 Like we have to do everything because someone somewhere said we had to do these things… If you’ve read my bio, you’ve heard me say, “I’m the hostess with the mostest ringing in the new southern belle!” This NEW Southern Belle is D-O-N-E with traditions.🙌 Speaking only for me, my traditions have crumbled in the last 10+ years. It’s incredibly freeing to realize I don’t need to be burdened by NOT doing/having traditions. And it’s okay to feel sad about it while relishing that freedom. A modern day staple I grew up with! For me, my chili needs a few types of beans (I love black beans, kidney, and chick peas!). You need tomatoes. Ground beef (This works with ground turkey!). And a little half hour simmer. Pro Tip: Make this the day before you really want to serve this! While this chili is a quick dinner idea, it’s even better the following day. So, if you’re wanting to host a Chili Dinner, make it the day before, then plop it into your slow cooker. Let it cook 4 hours and serve! If you’re my grandmother, you’ll serve this chili over rice with cole slaw. If you’re my mother, you’ll serve this chili with cornbread. If you’re me, you’ll serve this chili with cornbread, cheese, and sour cream. If you’re Reese Witherspoon, you bake this chili with cornbread mix on top in a skillet! Choose your own adventure! I have ONE rule when you come to my home: You can’t sit next to your partner! When I do arranged seating, I’ve found dinner parties go much smoother, and the conversation flows way easier! Here’s why: 🥳 When you have all the talkers on one end of the table, it’s quite lively on that end. 😬 When you have the more shy people on the other end, it’s quite awkward. 🔺 Instead, place your talkers in a triangle around your table! That means if you have a rectangle table, put one talker on one side, and two on the other, with a non-talker between them. I try to make it “every other person!” ((I also do girl boy girl boy girl boy!)) Did this make you excited?? Or did you roll your eyes?! If you rolled your eyes, or your skirt flew up because you’re being told what to do… Listen, in reality, you probably won’t be invited to my party. I don’t know you in real life. It’s a darling little stand that you choose which citrus you want freshly juiced then they pair it with a little simple syrup, soda water, and a maraschino cherry! I can’t get enough of them, even though I’ve only had 2 “real” ones in my life. With that lovely tale in your mind, let me tell you about the martini version. It’s the best! Fresh citrus juice. Iced cold Vodka Sweet Simple Syrup Tangy Grenadine. It’s a match made in heaven and makes the winter days a little brighter! Mix this up when you need a little refresher! Here are the ratios: 🍊 1 part Orange Juice 🍋 1 part Lemon Juice 🍋‍🟩 1 part Lime Juice 🍸 2 parts Vodka 🍦 1/2 part Simple Syrup 🍒 1/2 part Grenadine Mix it all in a shaker, and shake, shake, shake! Strain into whatever glass you prefer and enjoy! Want to make this for a batch cocktail for a LOT of people?! Grab a bottle of OJ, a bottle of lemonade, and a bottle of limeade. Mix those with 750ml of vodka and a jar of maraschino cherries! Roasted Brussels Sprouts! This is how we do it! Roasted Brussels Sprouts! This is how we do it! Roasting Rules! It rules in the sense that it’s an easy way to make a delicious anything… But there are also roasting rules you should follow to achieve the most toasty-roasty-goodness! First, preheat your oven to 425˚—this is a great universal roasting temperature. Before you toss your sprouts, veggies, or whatever on your sheet pan, make sure they’re around the same size. You want your veggies to cook at the same time, so having the same size cuts ensures this can happen! 1️⃣ Olive oil + Salt & Pepper is all you need! In your bowl with your cut sprouts, give a hefty drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Toss with your hands, and plop out onto a half sheet pan. 2️⃣ Place your cut sprouts flat-side down. This way, they get all golden brown and crispy!⁣ 3️⃣ Give them time - don't open your oven over and over to check on them. Set a timer for 18 minutes and DO NOT PEEK until that timer rings.⁣ After they are golden brown on one side, flip them over and allow the other side to get roasted. This won’t take nearly as long—but it adds a better texture. The thing I love most about roasting vegetables is how simple it is. These little Cute Patootie Caramel Pecan Cheesecakes were so EASY and delicious! Here’s how to make them: Fill the little store-bought mini graham cracker crusts with @phillycreamchs Cheesecake filling (I get it in the dairy section of the Walmarts.). Smooth out the tops, and add some salted caramel sauce. Top this with roasted chopped pecans (salty peanuts would be incredible!). Place in the fridge if you’re doing this ahead of time! Serve on a big platter with other *cute* bites, and let the festivities begin! Who’s making this?! Cut up some brie cheese, and put it inside a small, “Sugar Pie” pumpkin half. Drizzle in some golden syrup, spiced pecans, and craisins. Bake until it’s melted and tempting! Biscuit Croutons! Y’all, these are something spe Biscuit Croutons! Y’all, these are something special… I love making homemade croutons from any carb, mmkay?! But slice up some leftover biscuits into bite-sized chunks. Drizzle them with A LOT of olive oil (I prefer @getgraza!). A LOT. A hefty sprinky dink of onion powder, salt, and pepper. I used my Ninja Air Frying Oven… 425* for 12 minutes. After 12 minutes, I removed them, tossed around, then put them BACK in for another 8 minutes. If you’re using a conventional oven, just bake at 350 degrees for about 20-30 minutes. These were so so good on a big salad bar! Will you be making these biscuit croutons?!
