Teriyaki Steak and Vegetables

Teriyaki Steak and Vegetables is a quick weeknight dinner idea that keeps you on your low carb diet or keto lifestyle!

I love how easy it is to grill up a steak, roast some vegetables, and get a meal on the table in less than half an hour. This is one of the meal prep recipes that you can cut your vegetables, marinade your steak, and have this dinner waiting for you in the fridge for any night of the week. Teriyaki steak takes the guess work out of meal prepping!

Low carb meal prep is fairly simple — a protein and a vegetable are needed at each meal. Whether that is a large salad with grilled chicken or steamed broccoli with grilled shrimp. If you’ve downloaded the Meal Prep Guide from the resource library, you know there are MANY ways to have grilled chicken. {{{Why not join my email list if you haven’t! This resource library is full of great tips and tricks for meal planning, holiday planning, and preparing yourself well for entertaining.}}}

A major meal prep time saver is to use the following tips:

  • Portion everything out – use your macros to help you know how much!
  • Have your protein marinading all week in containers.
  • Cut your vegetables and store in glass containers.
  • Create a dinner making system for yourself

Have you ever made a dinner making system for yourself?? What do you start with first?

Here are some more ideas for a better system that I learned in culinary class…

Mise en Place.

Get all your ingredients out, and pre measure them before using. You know how on cooking shows they have all the little glass bowls lined up, ready to go with all their ingredients measured out?? Mise en Place is one of the first things you learn in culinary school. And this may seem like a major time suck — however, it’s exactly what you ARE doing with meal prepping! You’re pre portioning your meals, already made or ready to make when you need them, right?! Measuring all your ingredients from a recipe helps a not so seasoned chef RELAX in the kitchen. You can check off exactly what you need, place it all around your stove, and set yourself up for dinner making success before the first item hits the pan!

For Teriyaki Steak and Vegetables, there isn’t much to measure out — which is a nice thing! However, if you aren’t comfortable in the kitchen, measure all the ingredients out, then proceed with the recipe.

Preheat Your Oven or Skillet

I cannot tell you how many times I have gotten all the way through a recipe, and realized I forgot to turn on the oven or pre heat my skillet. Then, I waste 5-10 minutes waiting! So NOT fun, y’all!! When you’re making a meal that should be on the table in less than half an hour, and you’re spending time waiting for something to preheat, while you just stand around… that makes me even more hangry then I already am! 😉 For this teriyaki steak and vegetables recipe you’ll need to preheat your oven, and preheat a skillet.

However, preheating an oven to 425 degrees takes about 10-15 minutes — and you really want to wait this out! I am notorious for NOT waiting, and for just putting things in the oven before it’s actually come to the correct temperature. And, I’m never happy with the result, y’all! In order for vegetables to roast “properly” {{Have you read THIS post on Roasting Rules?!}} you need that high temperature to create that crispy crunch on the outside, but a soft tender veggie on the inside.

Room Temperature Steak

When grilling steak, let it come to room temperature as much as possible before slapping on that grill. This will help your steak grill better, and not leave you with a cooler center.

The last tip for dinner making systems I’ll leave you with is this:

Print out the recipes and make notes all over the page! If you and your family loved the recipe, add it to a binder for easy access and quick thinking when scrambling for dinner. I like to make a tab that has my absolute favorite dinners — one for easy and quick — and one for entertaining. Keep this close by so you are never without a good recipe in a pinch! Yes, using Pinterest for recipes is so fun — but, really! Print them out!
