Tips & Tricks

  • Want a grilled taste? Use smoked paprika or liquid smoke in your marinade.
  • Skip the air fryer? Grill or roast, just don’t boil—we want flavor, not sogginess.
  • Make it a build-your-own hot dog bar with toppings like caramelized onions, slaw, cheese, and BBQ sauce.

FAQ

Can I use turkey or plant-based hot dogs?
Yes! Just adjust cook time slightly depending on thickness and type. Now, I’ve never tried these, so I don’t know how those types of hot dogs cook up. Enter at your own risk! 😘

Can I make these ahead?
Absolutely! They reheat beautifully in the oven or air fryer. I made these on a Sunday, and saved four plain hot dogs that I did not put in a bun. They reheated fantastically in the air fryer! 400˚ for 5 minutes.

Can I freeze leftovers?
Totally! Just wrap tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat at 325˚ until warmed through.

Notes

I loved making these hot dogs ahead of time, then taking them over to my parents’ house!

After the hot dogs were cooked in the air fryer, I loaded each dog into a bun in a casserole dish. When I arrived at my parents’ house, I put the covered dish into a 300˚ oven for 15 minutes. Some of the buns stuck a bit to the sides, and if I had put them on a rack inside the dish, they would not have done this. But! No one cared! 😂
