Lesson #2 of 30: The loneliest thing isn’t eatin Lesson #2 of 30: The loneliest thing isn’t eating dinner alone. 👉 It’s being surrounded by people you can’t be yourself around. For a long time, I thought loneliness was about the number of people in the room. ↪️ The size of your friend group. ↪️ Whether you had plans on Friday night. ↪️ Whether there was someone sitting across the table. But I’ve learned those things aren’t always the best indicators. I’ve felt perfectly content eating dinner by myself with a good book and a cup of tea. And I’ve felt incredibly lonely in rooms full of people. Because loneliness isn’t always the absence of company. Sometimes it’s the absence of connection. ↪️ It’s censoring yourself. ↪️ Shrinking yourself. ↪️ Walking away from a conversation feeling unseen. ↪️ Pretending to be someone you’re not just to belong. The older I get, the more I realize that finding your people isn’t about finding people who agree with you on everything. 👉 It’s finding people who make it safe to be fully yourself. 👏 The people who laugh at your stories. 👏 Celebrate your wins. 👏 Sit with you through hard things. And somehow leave you feeling more like yourself than when you arrived. Those are the people worth pulling up a chair for. 💕 Save this for the next time you mistake being alone for being lonely. Two hours. TWO. HOURS. Y’all, I decided to mak Two hours. TWO. HOURS. Y’all, I decided to make my own citrus syrup for homemade sodas and cocktails. I scrubbed, zested, juiced, stirred, simmered, and lovingly bottled every last drop. The result? A gorgeous, bright citrus syrup that disappeared at a dinner party in approximately 15 minutes. 😅 Would I do it again? Maybe. Would I complain about it the entire time? Absolutely. But that’s the thing about gathering people around your table. Sometimes the effort isn’t really about the syrup. It’s about the laughter, the conversations, and watching something you made bring people together. ✨ Citrus Syrup Recipe ✨ 🍊 4 navel oranges 🍋 3 lemons 🍈 6 limes 🍚 3 cups sugar 💧 3 cups water Fill your sink with water and baking soda. Scrub each piece of citrus thoroughly, rinse well, and dry completely. Zest all of the citrus into the sugar. Using your hands, work the zest into the sugar until it feels fragrant and coated. Juice all of the citrus and add the juice to the sugar mixture. Stir in the water. Transfer everything to a pot and simmer over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Let cool, then pour into a swing-top bottle and refrigerate. To serve: Add a few tablespoons of syrup to 16 ounces of soda water for a bright, refreshing mocktail. And if you’re feeling festive… a splash of tequila never hurt anyone. 😉 Save this recipe for your next dinner party. 39 years. 🤯 This month, as I celebrate another 39 years. 🤯 This month, as I celebrate another trip around the sun, I thought it would be fun to share 30 things I’ve learned along the way. Not because I have all the answers. Far from it. 😂 But after 39 years of awkward seasons, beautiful seasons, dinner parties, heartbreaks, reinventions, business pivots, unexpected friendships, and more casseroles than I can count, I’ve picked up a few things. So we’re kicking things off with this one: “Nobody is coming to hand you the life you want. You have to invite yourself.” Whew. That lesson has followed me everywhere. I’ve learned that life rarely begins when everything is perfect. It begins the moment you stop waiting for permission. 👏 The dinner party.
