When you dip them into apple sauce and sour cream, it becomes an instant core memory you’ll want to experience over and over. If you’ve never tried making latkes, they may seem intimidating. But, y’all, they’re incredibly easy to make. Here are a few secrets to getting perfectly crisp yet fluffy latkes: ✅ Squeeze your shredded potatoes in a kitchen towel, open the towel and “fluff” the potatoes, then squeeze again making sure they are as dry as possible. ✅ Pan fry the latkes at a lower temperature, for a longer time. Ensuring the middle cooks through, and every outside edge is perfectly crisp. ✅ While apple sauce and sour cream are traditional, @flybyjing Zhong Sauce is the *best* dipper! Need the recipe?! I’m usually Boy Scout Prepared. ✌️ But! I have been “moving locations” more frequently, and I found a duffle that is incredible! You zip your hanging clothes in, zip up the sides, and stuff it full. My 10-day trip recently was with this bag + my “mobile office! I flipping LOVE when I have as minimal bags as possible. I’ll do the same thing on Thursday morning as I have for the last 30-something Thanksgiving Thursdays. It’s tradition. 😬 I’m really not big on tradition. The expectations that come with traditions seem to always be a set up for disappointment… 🫖 I’m over traditions. A dear friend and I were lounging on the couch one time, discussing traditions, and how we’re really just NOT a fan. 🫢 And how, as we get older, traditions make us feel suffocated. 🫢 Stuck. 🫢 Like we have to do everything because someone somewhere said we had to do these things… If you’ve read my bio, you’ve heard me say, “I’m the hostess with the mostest ringing in the new southern belle!” This NEW Southern Belle is D-O-N-E with traditions.🙌 Speaking only for me, my traditions have crumbled in the last 10+ years. It’s incredibly freeing to realize I don’t need to be burdened by NOT doing/having traditions. And it’s okay to feel sad about it while relishing that freedom. A modern day staple I grew up with! For me, my chili needs a few types of beans (I love black beans, kidney, and chick peas!). You need tomatoes. Ground beef (This works with ground turkey!). And a little half hour simmer. Pro Tip: Make this the day before you really want to serve this! While this chili is a quick dinner idea, it’s even better the following day. So, if you’re wanting to host a Chili Dinner, make it the day before, then plop it into your slow cooker. Let it cook 4 hours and serve! If you’re my grandmother, you’ll serve this chili over rice with cole slaw. If you’re my mother, you’ll serve this chili with cornbread. If you’re me, you’ll serve this chili with cornbread, cheese, and sour cream. If you’re Reese Witherspoon, you bake this chili with cornbread mix on top in a skillet! Choose your own adventure! I have ONE rule when you come to my home: You can’t sit next to your partner! When I do arranged seating, I’ve found dinner parties go much smoother, and the conversation flows way easier! Here’s why: 🥳 When you have all the talkers on one end of the table, it’s quite lively on that end. 😬 When you have the more shy people on the other end, it’s quite awkward. 🔺 Instead, place your talkers in a triangle around your table! That means if you have a rectangle table, put one talker on one side, and two on the other, with a non-talker between them. I try to make it “every other person!” ((I also do girl boy girl boy girl boy!)) Did this make you excited?? Or did you roll your eyes?! If you rolled your eyes, or your skirt flew up because you’re being told what to do… Listen, in reality, you probably won’t be invited to my party. I don’t know you in real life.
