What to Serve with Fried Rice

Fried rice is one of the best side dishes in Chinese restaurants. When they ask do I want white rice or fried rice, I almost interrupt them with “fried rice, please!”

What is fried rice?

It’s leftover rice that is added to a very hot wok with soy sauce, sesame oil, fresh veggies, and a fried egg. Top the whole thing with green onions, and you have a meatless main dish!

Day-old rice is best to make fried rice recipes with! You can use brown rice, and jasmine rice. I like to pop over to my local Asian restaurant and pick up a container of their rice.

This delicious dish is definitely a “use what you have” kind of recipe. I started a little “thing” with myself last year where I save bits and ends of my dinners… Then I make a big bowl of fried rice on Fridays! It uses up the fresh vegetables I have in my refrigerator, and the unique flavor transforms taste buds!

The best part? It’s super quick and easy!

You’ll add the vegetables (like red pepper, snow peas, green beans, bean sprouts, or any other colorful vegetables!) to a hot large wok with canola oil or olive oil in it.

Quickly fry all the ingredients together with black pepper, soy sauce, or any other flavors you fancy. I love using Bachan’s Japanese BBQ sauce to really elevate the flavor of my fried rice!
