HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE

When eating keto, you really need all the protein you can eat.

Easy keto egg bake is a great way to start your day well.

I like to make a dish of this on Sunday evenings, and then slice off a portion each morning for breakfast.

Since I don’t have a microwave, it does take some time to reheat in the oven — but, I get ready, and then eat it right before I walk out the door.

It’s a good way to “sit still” for a few minutes before starting a busy, busy day!

If you aren’t familiar with the ketogenic diet, I recommend this fantastic book!

So much information is essential for fully understanding that eating “keto” isn’t just eating low carb.

It’s eating all the correct macronutrients for YOUR body. <—– Major light bulb moment for me! I wrote, highlighted, and added tabs all over this book.

WHAT IS KETO?

“Keto is a low-carb, high fat, moderate protein lifestyle

The ketogenic diet, or keto, refers to a way of eating that can be described as low-carb, high fat, and moderate protein.

Most people on keto eat less than 20g net carbs each day and get more than 75% of their nutrients from fat (more on this below).

The goal of keto is ketosis

One of the goals of the ketogenic diet is getting into what is called ketosis.

Ketosis is a metabolic state in which your body is burning fat for fuel instead of burning carbs and sugar. ” – an excerpt from Dr. Davinahs Eats

You can read more about it from my friend, Dr. Davinah, she has an amazing keto blog, where you will drool over every recipe and learn so much!

  • Cook Time: 25
  • Total Time: 40

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Breakfast Sausage (I like using hot!)
  • 1 small Yellow Onion, diced
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream (or half & half, milk, whatever you have on hand!)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 375˚
  2. Brown sausage and onions together in a large pan over medium heat.
  3. Drain sausage and onions onto a paper towel.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, combine cheese with six eggs, cream, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add sausage and onions to a baking dish (I use a large glass pie dish, but 8×8 works great, too!)
  6. Pour cheese and egg mixture overtop — shimmying the whole thing together.
  7. Bake at 375˚ for 25 minutes, or until golden brown on top, and doesn’t jiggle in the center.

Notes

  • Make this on a Sunday evening, and enjoy a keto breakfast each morning!

    1. I don’t have a video of this — but, thanks for the request! I’ll see what I can do!

  2. Have made this twice and it is a winner. We add spinach and sweet peppers with onions and it really comes out delicious. Have to increase cooking time to 45 minutes for it to be completely cooked through.

    1. I use Jones Dairy Farm! If I can’t find the raw sausage, I’ll add the frozen patties that I’ve cooked and cut up!

  3. I was surprised at how tasty this was, considering how easy it is. My family really enjoyed it and now I’m making it again! Thanks!

  4. This is an awesome recipe. Second time to make them. I made it with hot breakfast sausage from my local meat market. Followed the recipe exactly. I made it in a muffin pan and it made 12 muffins. I used the baking spray with flour for the muffin pan. It was sticking around the edges from the cheese. I just ran a knife around the muffins and it loosened them up. I freeze them after they cool off and put them in a freezer bag. Now, I have a great low carb breakfast ready each morning. Thanks so much.

  5. This was the most amazing recipe, just loved it. I had Italian mild sausage and used that instead but used everything else on your recipe. Used the heavy cream, really liked the flavor better. Thank you so much.

  6. A favorite! I made this and my go to egg bake for the non-keto members of the family. Keto egg bake gone…other egg bake still siting here! So easy and so good. Thanks for the recipe!

  7. I was looking for a good “base” recipe & this is IT! I used turkey sausage, spinach & feta cheese. I also used 2/3 c 2% milk + 2T melted butter. My husband loved it-I had limit him to two slices so there would be enough left for my breakfasts next week! Thank you! ?

    1. Yay!!! Love hearing this!! Can’t wait to see your other creations using this base recipe!
