How to Make this Dumpling Sauce Recipe

Ingredients for Dumpling sauce

Start by gathering your ingredients:

Oyster Sauce – it’s a sweet and salty condiment used in many Asian recipes like stir fry, marinades, and dipping sauces! You can find it in your grocer’s Asian section.

Black Vinegar – this is made from black rice and has a real smoky, woody taste to it. Once you try it, you’ll start drizzling a little bit over everything. It’s for a great “pucker” taste… where the back glands of your mouth pucker when you get a hit. It’s just phenomenal. If your store doesn’t have any, just use rice vinegar in its place, although there isn’t a real substitution for black vinegar. I buy mine at my local Asian market.

Soy Sauce – I use lite sodium soy sauce.

Green Onions – a couple of green onions, sliced, including the white parts. They’re just so wonderful in everything!

Fresh Garlic – use real, in the husk fresh garlic! No jarred business here! Dice it up really fine, or use a microplane to grate the garlic over everything.

Fresh Ginger – This is the zip every sauce recipe needs. Adding a light fresh, zippy flavor to the dumpling sauce recipe.

Red Pepper Flakes – these are optional, but definitely use a some good shakes if you like spice!

Sesame Seeds – I didn’t have any sesame seeds, so I used Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Seasoning

Sugar – just a pinch of sugar helps balance the salty acid of the soy sauce and black vinegar.

Neutral Oil – this helps to cook the garlic, onions, and ginger. I don’t always do it, but I’ll explain why below!

Making the Sauce

Next, you’ll measure all your ingredients out into a small bowl.

Use a spoon to gently stir everything together.

Now, Jen Curley adds a drizzle of very hot oil to her sauce before she mixes everything up.

I leave it out because I love the taste of fresh garlic and ginger. However, for some, it might be too spicy!

Fresh garlic gets spicy after a bit of time, so if you’d like to “cook” the garlic and ginger a little bit, I recommend you drizzle the top of your bowl of ingredients with hot oil. When the sizzling stops give it all a good mix!

Serving your Dumpling Sauce

Now, get your Air Fryer Frozen Dumplings going, and dip on in!

Any leftover sauce I end up with, I’ll pour over hot noodles, or when I make stir fry. I keep it in the fridge in an air tight container.
