Baked italian sliders

If you’re hosting any kind of “viewing party,” you’ll want this recipe. Whether hosting a couchgate for the super bowl,  an oscars party, or maybe just chilling with Netflix on a Saturday afternoon — these sliders will make your dreams come true.

I’ll show you just how out of the world, and over the top these little sammies are!

There are few components to any baked slider:

  1. Hawaiian rolls (not separated, but sliced in half)

  2. Sauce to “line” the tops and bottoms

  3. Out of this world filling, that usually involves cheese.

I’m going to show you how these components create irresistible game day sliders for any tailgate! Here’s the quick overview of making baked italian sliders from stirring the sauce up, to slathering it on the hawaiian rolls. Layering the meats and cheese, followed by more cheese and sauce. Wrapped up and baked!

First up, let’s make the sauce!

Here we have what every Italian dreams of…. Sun dried tomatoes, grated shallots & garlic, mayo, capers, and roasted red pepper strips. YUM!!!

Stir all this up with a few cracks of black pepper, and let it hang out while you prepare the bread, and gather your other supplies.

Slice your hawaiian rolls across the “hemisphere,” leaving all the pieces intact. I like to line the sheet tray with a large piece of foil, so I can wrap the sammies up without having to pick the whole thing up. <—- Thinking ahead with little tips like this make cooking more fun! No one wants a stuck slider….

Slather the bottom half with the mayo-caper-roasted red pepper spread you made earlier. (PS, you could make this a day before, if you’re into that kind of thing.)

Now we’re going to layer! Start with deli sliced pepperoni, followed by ham, salami, and mozzarella. Then do this whole process once more, with feeling.

One thing to keep in mind when creating any recipe is how all the components work together. This is a HEAVY slider, meat sweats are imminent. In order to counter that, I added a drizzle (okay, major drizzle!) of balsamic vinegar on the tops of the rolls.

THEN slather more of the mayo sauce on. The acid gives a burst of lightness to this over the top slider recipe.

Wrap those sammies up TIGHT with foil. I used one more piece on top, to make sure it was snuggled tight! (Not pictured: when I baked these sammiches, I used the top to my Le Creuset pot, to weigh these bad boys down.)

Bake at 350˚ for about 20 minutes.

This is what tailgating dreams are made of. Melty cheese, briney capers and roasted red peppers, tart sun dried tomatoes. And layers on layers of italian deli cuts. YES!
